In Fear And Faith

The last twenty-four hours had been anything but fun. It started off strange. There was so much missing from her life. There was a lack of powers, strength, a link to a person she would be held to in this life and the next. She couldn't communicate to him, she didn't have gills on her neck anymore. It was all so confusing and she didn't know where to go or what to do. She needed to run, not run away but go for a run. Isn't this what she wanted? Normalcy, to go back to being human, what and who she was without complication. Yet here she was confused as to why it was gone, almost missing the abilities. Changing into her workout gear she grabbed her phone, earphones and keys. Leaving the dogs at home, as soon as her feet touched the concrete outside of her building she began running. There was no direction; there was just the synchronizing of her feet hitting the pavement in hard, quick motions, her breathing and the blaring music drowning out the rest of the world spilling from her earphones into her ears. It wouldn't solve anything, but she needed the distraction from her thoughts.

Despite her running, she found herself running along the beach. She was trying her hardest to defy what she already knew. She couldn't command anything, nothing manipulated around her. She wasn't one with the water. Was this a good thing? How good could it be to go from abilities to being cut off? Was she losing herself? There were too many questions, her feet began to pick up their pace again. She found herself at a safe place. It was early enough that she needed the coffee and her nerves were shot enough she needed the alcohol. Unlocking the door to the shop she slipped in before anyone would notice; she didn't want someone thinking they were open early for some reason. Turning on the machine she readied the ingredients. She set them aside as the coffee brewed and went to the back office. She took out the earphones and turned off the music, putting her keys and phone in the desk. She looked over some papers that were left on the desk that she had to get to plug into the system. Perhaps some work would do her some good. Turning the computer on she started up the program and started typing a few lines in.

Standing up she left the office and went back out front to get her coffee. Just as she turned around the door opened and closed. "Sorry we're." She turned around and stopped mid sentence. These men were not here for the flavour of the month. Without hesitation she took off running towards the back, letting go of the coffee mug, glass smashing against the porcelain tile; the light beige hot beverage in a puddle with slight splatters up the wall. As she took to the back without hesitation the three men came charging after her. She was able to lock the office door just as it shook from one of their bodies slamming into it. She jumped back and went around the desk towards the window. She had it opened as the door came off its hinges and snapped in half as the men came into the room. Two grabbed her legs pulling her back away from the window. Danica's upper body hit a filing cabinet sending the filed papers in their folders to go flying then hit the ground. She grabbed the swivel chair and it moved, tipping over. She grabbed the desk and shook her body free from their grasp. She kicked one of them in the head; he stumbled back into the book shelf. She stood up and grabbed the shelf of the bookcase, the books and files falling to the floor as it came out of the unit. She used it to upper cut another one of them. As she was about to slam the wood into another one of their heads she felt a prick in her neck. Dropping the board she grabbed the spot and turned around to see one of them holding a needle in his hand. She could nothing. The world spun and she saw black. She came too and she was in a room, a futuristic room. There were others with her; one of them she knew. Why there were all in this room together, who they all were, and how long she had been in here before she woke up; well she couldn't be too sure of that either.

There wasn't much she could do, just wait. The weird joy in this was she wasn't alone, but in the same token if something were to happen she didn't want it to happen to anyone else. There was confusion across the entire group, yet they tried to keep morale up as best as possible. They were taken into another room to be interrogated. She had no answers; or rather she didn't want to give any that would help them. She sat silently as possible, looking ahead but of course she would get snarky and argue back. She could say she knew nothing and wasn't going to help them and they would argue with her. Back in the room and finally giving into exhaustion she fell asleep. She was suddenly woken up to ice water being thrown on her. She screamed out quickly due to shock and quickly stood up. It was then she realized how cold it was in the room.

She was mad, if she had everything she was used to she could control this, she could help shift this so nobody was affected by the cold. As interrogations began again lights would flicker on and off. They were going in some order, they came in and knew exactly who to go for, they seemed very organized for people frantically kidnapping people. She watched as people got pulled from the room and then brought back into the room.

Then it was her turn. She was grabbed, arm twisted behind her back with a hand on her wrist and another hand pulling her hair as she was ushered forward down a hall. quick, look for something. Anything. She couldn't find anything that gave clues where she was. It wasn't going to help, they couldn't get a signal and she had no way or getting out where they were even if they could figure out where they were. She was taken to a room, the two men in the room were looking less and less friendly. This is not going to end well. She was brought to stand in the middle of the room, there she was seated in a chair behind a table. The room was dimly lit. "I'll give you one chance to talk, or I'm afraid you'll have to pay for your insubordination." Danica glared up at them. "I have no fucking idea what you're talking about." The man came behind her, grabbed her head back by her hair and slammed her head into the metal desk. The ringing in her head caused her to groan. Fuck!

Then she was stood up and slammed against the wall like a rag doll. Her head flung back to hit the lackey in the head, he stumbled back and she ran for the door. The other lackey came to behind her and slammed her into the wall, then turned her to face them. His fist connected with her face. She screamed and her head turned with impact. She might night have her full strength or durability but she wasn't going down without a fight. She held onto the first lackey's arms and kicked off the other, seemingly running up his body until she kicked his head, stumbling him backwards. As soon as her feet touched the ground her hands let go of the other guy and she swung with her right then her left. If they were going to treat her like an animal, she was going to be as feral and violent as a caged animal could get. As she was distracted with the lackey she just punched the other came behind her and held her by the nape of the neck. The other quickly caught up and kicked her at the knees knocking her to the ground. The other pushed her head forward, submerging her head into water. She struggled, wiggled under their hold. Panic set in and her thoughts raced, then darkness. She woke up, groggy and in pain.

They drugged her while she was out, that much she could tell. Her head was pounding and she could see visible marks on her legs and arms. The blood dripped from her face onto her clothes and legs. She looked up at them; they were over her gloating in their victory. She stood up and they began the stance, as did she. She swung and missed; one uppercut her in the stomach. She screamed out, intense pain shot through her body. She stumbled back and she looked at their hands and there were there brass knuckle contraptions on their hands. But there was more to it. She charged at them and managed to punch one in the face and elbow another one in the side. But they came back, punched her repeatedly in the side. The sharp, shooting pain filling her body like a tremor. She could almost feel her ribs cracking. Hunched over, an arm around her waist, she leaned over and coughed a few times and then threw up from the intense pain. The two just laughed at her and she stood up.

The pain was unbearable; she was doing her best to keep herself from thinking of the pain. Of the struggle of her body wanting to give out on itself. Internally she was screaming, cursing and dying. She swung again and then kicked one in the side. Her strength was nothing compared to theirs or what it could be but she was still giving them a run for their money. "Tell us what you know about the gems!" Danica rolled her eyes and refused to respond to them. One of them threw her into the wall again while the other began hitting and kicking her. "I'll tell you!" She screamed out as she fell to the ground. One of the lackey's grabbed her by the hair so she was standing on her feet. His grasp let go of her hair and moved to around her throat. "Spill!" "She's a mysterious singer of a rock band." The lackey tightened his grip on her throat and lifted her to dangle just slightly off the floor. "Stupid girl. You're going to make others suffer." With a tap of a tiny button on the knuckle device electricity surged through them. He punched her in the side while he still held her above the ground. A jolt of electricity ran through her body with the impact of the punch. She screamed out in unimaginable pain and was dropped to the ground. As she was on the ground, struggling to raise her body up one of the lackey's hovered over her, grabbing her arms, twisting her arm back until she felt the pull and snap of her bones in two places. She screamed out and threw up on the ground once more.

The lackey picked her up off the floor and threw her into the wall. She was struggling to stay awake, coherence and alert. She slung her injured arm across her abdomen and she remained slightly hunched over. "You'll be a good example of why you give the answers we know you all have." Just then the other lackey came to her and punched her in the face again, another small jolt of electricity surged through her body. Her knees buckled and she fell to the floor, on her knees with her left hand holding her up. Unable to deal with the pain anymore her arm holding her gave out as her body went limp and she once again was met with darkness.
